YOGA LOKA

Yoga is a practice for every stage of life and its healing power is evident at every class level.

In beginning classes we work on alignment and awareness.

Our approach is gentle, yet intensive.

The new student will gain a thorough understanding of the basics.

In more advanced classes we help students develop individual practices

that challenge and invigorate the body, mind and spirit.

Students will learn Vinyasa – the ability to coordinate breathe and movement in a sequential series of poses.

Yoga philosophy, pranayama, guided meditation, hands-on assists and deep relaxation are taught in every class.

Yoga as Therapy

Asana (the sanskrit word used for Yoga Pose) is defined as a steady comfortable seat. That seat being any way that your body physically relates to the earth. If you find discomfort in sitting, standing, laying down, or in any of your day to day activities, or lack of energy and vitality, you are not able to live your life in a complete and joyful way.
This series uses therapeutic, restorative, and strengthening yoga poses, as well as visualizations and guided imagery so you can get to know and heal your body. Imbalances will be discovered so you can concentrate your energy more efficently. New ways of moving and breathing will be explored so you can restore energy, strength and joy to your life.
Through this practice you will reclaim the power to heal yourself.
So if you are living with back, knee, or shoulder pain, if you have a chronic condition or illness, or you simply want to get to know your body again, committing to 8 weeks of practice may change your life

Baby and Me/Family Yoga

Children learn best by imitation. What better way for them to experience the joys of yoga then to watch the ones they love practicing yoga, and being able to join in when they want? Moms, Dads and Caretakers are welcome to bring their little ones to this class geared towards all age groups. We will do some chanting, some yoga poses, some relaxation, and end with some prasad (a snack for the wee ones and some tea for the older group).  No previous yoga experience needed to participate.

This class runs with a minimum of 5 families registered for a 4 class block.

Prenatal Yoga

Expectant moms want to provide the best environment for their unborn babies. What better way to do that then learn how to relax, reduce your stress, breathe, and keep your body healthy and strong? This class will go over the basics for a yoga practice that will help you accomplish these goals. And for those moms-to-be who already have experience in yoga, this workshop will teach you how to modify your asanas as you blossom so that you can continue to practice in a safe and comfortable manner. All levels of yoga practitioners are welcome as well as all stages of pregnancy.

This class runs with a minimum of 6 women registered for a 6 class block.

Meditation and Satsang

The asana, or physical, part of the yoga practice was developed to allow yogis to sit comfortably in meditation.  Meditation practice is an opportunity to experience our true essence. No experience is required to begin -- this class is for all levels of meditators, from absolute beginners to long-time practitioners.  Satsang is keeping the company of like-minded people.  Thoughts,  questions, experiences are shared in a supportive environment.    A beautiful opportunity to learn some tools for relaxation, reduce stress, and participate in the yoga community.  Regular sessions are scheduled during the week.  Beginner introduction workshops are offered throughout the year.

________________

Zen Meditation

Learn and experience the art of the ancient practice of Zazen.  The marriage of Buddhism and the Tao created Zen, the simple form of getting to the source of your being.  Regular practice sessions are scheduled during the week for more experienced students, and beginner introduction workshops are offered during the year.

Private Lessons

Each student has different needs.  A private lesson scheduled with one of the Yoga Loka teaching staff will enable you to specify a practice to your own body and constitution.  Each lesson will include an overall assessment of your body and then you will be guided to poses that address your needs.  You will be assisted throughout the lesson in order to fine-tune your asanas.  A good way to begin a yoga practice, or enhance your existing practice.  Private lessons are also very beneficial for people working with illness, injury or other limitations that are not addressed in a general class setting.
